nitpicking

first off, many thanks to the folks who made the release happen. now onto the immediate critisism ;)

I noticed that the vera sans lower set compares very closely to MS's verdana at larger sizes. unfortunately at smaller sizes (14 and smaller) the font starts to show some rough edges.

Specifically the w,x,y, and z characters need some refinement, they look very grainy. Also the e,s, and v have some spacing issues, to the point that they tend to run into the next character w/o even a pixel between them. Additionally the round characters: b,c,d,g,o,p, and q have some weight issues where at certain sizes they appear thicker or darker then their neighboring characters.

As for the upper set, the height seems to be a bit short when compared with the lower of the same size. Look at how letter combinations "Th" and "Ll" look unbalanced (I realize that the lower case is supposed to be taller then the upper, but when the difference is 2 pixels, it starts to look odd).

That said, its a very good start, and I'm greatful it has been given to the community. Hopefully, like other OS projects, it will be refined with time.
