An epiphany in browsing

Epiphany Web Browser
Epiphany Web Browser

As many of you know, the former maintainer of Galeon, Marco Pesenti Gritti, recently started a new project based on the Galeon codebase known as Epiphany. The main goals of the Epiphany web browser are simplicity, usability, following the GNOME HIG, and GNOME integration. Epiphany is available from GNOME cvs in the "epiphany" module.

Ed Dumbill has written a nice short little review of Epiphany in its current developmental state, complete with a few screenshots, and some download links.

Also, here is another screenshot of Epiphany taken by James Willcox showing a patch that provides load feedback in the tabs and a bookmark context menu.

On another note, If any of you out there would be interested in contributing to the Epiphany project, Marco could use some help with the Epiphany website

Re: An epiphany in browsing

That doesn't sound correct to me.

Firstly, unless ephy makes use of some features only available in gtk2.2 (unlikely i think at this point) you should just be able to recompile it against gtk 2.0

Secondly, gtk2.2 does not depend on R&R, I know this because I'm running a gtk2.2 desktop now, and I don't have XFree 4.3 so even if ephy did require gtk 2.2, all it would require is dropping in a new library. The latest XFree also doesn't require glibc2.3 as such, if it's compiled against it then it'll need it yes, but you don't have to use that binary.

It sounds to me like you're trying to pull in stuff from rawhide - basically, don't! Stuff like XF4.3, GTK2.2 and so on will be available Pheobe when it's released, until then use redhat 8 specific packages.

Yeah, it sucks, but until we get a handle on proper binary portability there's not much that can be done.
