If anyone's wondering why developers avoid hacking
on the file selector, one only has to read all the threads about it. Apparently it's the #1 way to get a bunch of flames, surpassing even the window manager. ;-)

I think the main point of the current libegg effort
is the API, not the UI. The proposal from MM is
pretty good UI wise IMO. The UI may actually end up
at least somewhat "pluggable," since GTK does run
on Win32 and may in future run on OS X, and
you want to be able to fit in on those platforms.
Pluggable for cross-platform probably means
users can add their own filesel hacks on
unix, too.
