Re: this is a *good* thing

Suppose GNOME has a million users. What if you removed settings that only 1% of users use. Then you annoy ten thousand people. Ooops. Some hidden gconf key is not going to satisfy people as most will never, ever, use it. The sane thing to do is have good defaults and a powerful configuration system for people. How many times does 'joe user' configure their desktop? Most people I have seen only change the background, screensaver and resolution in windows. So it doesn't matter how complicated all the other configs are, they will never bother looking at them.
