Bag of Software

Lightbird is an attempt to create a simple IM service for LANs(client and server).
It started as an ICQ Groupware clone.

It requires mono, gtk# 2.8 and SDL for sounds.

*sigh*

I have not even tried the app. Merly viewed the website. It might be great! But honestly who cares? It will never compete with the public IM services and for private installations we already have Jabber. It uses an open standard protocol with a solid framework for extensions. It's portabal, got several servers and clients on many platforms, and finally it's backed by a strong community. Why on earth drives you people to reinvent the wheel like this? You could have made much greater contribution to the world by implementing a new jabber-server/-client for Mono. This is tragic. Especially since both the app and the site looks very nice. What a waste of time and talent.
