A first look at Gaim 2.0

GNOME IM
GNOME IM

The Gaim 2.0 release is nearing its home stretch. The Gaim team released beta4 last week, with a number of new features and UI improvements. Gaim 2.0 is shaping up as a net improvement over Gaim 1.5, though some features have not changed for the better, and voice support for Google Talk is still missing in action. More here.

Looking at the screenshots, it seems that at least 2 of the Gaim pref windows won't fit on a generic SVGA Gnome screen (a resolution still used by 10% of the internet population according to OneStat.com).

i too had waited for video more than voice to be add to 2, but now its been slated to lordy knows when. i would have liked gaim-vv to continue, but i guess they were pressurised to stop that. at this rate video wont be added for years :-(

i noticed they set up planet gaim, but there doesnt seem to be any mention of video or voice there, no doubt it is the most popular feature request, but any mention of it and everyone closes rank.

i do like the new stuff thats in gaim and i prefer it to using seperate programs, but i do wish they would do a todo list or something with estimated versions when stuff is likey to be added.

i hope no one replies to this by 'if u dont like it, fork it' or 'submit a patch' cause thats become boring, and a waste of everyones time.

anyways, i will continue to pray to higher powers that video voice will be done sooner than later :-)
