the fact that you think women are a minority in this industry (and, to be fair, they are) shows you exactly why a group like Gnome Women is needed.

No, it doesn't. I don't understand how seperating women from men is somehow good! If one of our goals is to encourage more women to participate in gnome, then we should just do that every time there is a bug day, conference or anything else. But seperate mailing list, irc channel, WTF? It's not encouraging! It's more like "Get out of our way and do your buisness seperately! We don't need your help really."

When women have equal representation we can then talk about "equal rights".
Treating them as some kind of alien life form won't help to archieve this.
