We all know that power management in Linux isn't all that's it should be. It sometimes takes a lot of work to get things "just right" or as the mantra goes "It Just Works".

All this is changing with the rise of Gnome Power Manager.

HAL and DBUS will run

HAL and DBUS will run without GNOME, but the GUI tools are undoubtedly written with libgnome and libgnomeui and therefore are not desktop-independent.
