Uhhh, why exactly should Gnome have this annoying behavior? The file dialog already has prominent Home and Desktop shortcuts. There is also a Home folder link on your desktop by default. So why do users need to be prevented access to /usr/bin, where all of their applications are? As long as users can get at the files they need easily and don't get lost navigating / we don't need to adopt one of the worst Windows annoyances ever.
