Need User Surveys, Not So-Called Experts

Well, it is really not a good article - here is why: If you look at major firms, they use focus groups and some software companies set up major user labs where surveys are done on a wide-ranging target group of users. Who cares what one so-called expert thinks? Or two or three. It's what 50% of the market thinks that is important. Had this article been based on a number of interviews with users, or had any scientific evidence to back it up, it would be more valuable. Our small office had no major problems using Ubuntu - the comment regarding more attention should be applied to applications not UI is a much bigger issue for us. Our biggest complaint with Ubuntu was all the apps we had to download via apt-get which took a lot of time, especially so all machines are running the same stuff. Otherwise, we like it and have switched our machines to it. Ask managers that have staff running the software and have a critical stake in how well it performs - their feedback should be more on the money.
