AbiWord v2.2.6 Released!

AbiWord
AbiWord

This releases includes a massive list of changes and bugfixes all over the map, ranging from the MS Word importer to the MacOSX port to a nice bunch of fixed crasher bugs. We hope we didn't break something in the process[1].

This release is a bugfix release only. The changes from 2.2.5 to 2.2.6 include, amongst others:

  • Import TextBoxes from MS Word (finally!)
  • Fix various crashers relating to table editing, footnotes/endnotes editing, etc
  • A huge list of MacOSX specific fixes and changes (you rock Francis!)
  • ... and a lot more!

The full Changelog can be found here.

All users are very much encouraged to upgrade to this new version.

Need Help Installing Abiword.

I use Mandrake 10.1. I am having a problem installing Abiword. The RPM I downloaded keeps looking for libenchant something. I installed but this didn't seem to work either. I would like to use Abiword and get away from OpenOffice since it is now so bloated that it has become just like the one from Washington. I have downloaded the RPM from the Mandrake sight on the ABI page. I also downloaded the latest Enchant from the same sight. Now what? Anyone that can give me the next steps, please?

Nice but Image problem

Nice to see continuous improvements - just a few comments:
1) importing a word doc with an image in a table - image does not load (or even any marker for the image)
2) it would be real nice to have a page margin outline (ie OpenOffice) - I know this can be shown with all formatting marks but then it's real messy.
3) Oh that gtk open file dialog is so awkward to use - hard to figure out how to browse a different directory.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the fedback.

Regarding 1) could you open a bug in bugzilla with an example word document demonstrating the the problem? This sort of bug can be fixed quickly with some good demo case.

Regarding 2) I'm afraid you'll have to make a strong case for this. I find that page outline thing in OO.o rather distasteful. I guess they do it because they have no left ruler. With AbiWord's top and left rulers the margin's for the document on the page are obvious.

Regarding 3) complain to the gtk people or support the Spatial AbiWord initiave announced on April 1st :-)

PDF support

Is there any chance of PDF export support coming?

we support pdf through gnome-print

We've supported pdf since 1.0 through gnome-print.

Just choose print to pdf from the print dialog.

I admit it lacks the cool hyperlinks though. We should file an RFE on gnome-print to support hyperlinks on print to pdf.

2.2.7 release as well.

We fixed a bad regression.

Stro: could you s/2.2.6/2.2.7 everywhere? :-)

Bugs bugs and more bugs

You can help us out.

Many bug reports do not include enough of a detailed description. By investigation the problems and providing a clear explanation of what exactly is going wrong you can help make it easier for a developer to identify and fix problems.

What's more we need help checking old bugs. When you update if you could take a look at bugs that are marked as fixed and check to see if you can verfy that they are fixed it will help us make progress.

Bugzilla takes a lot of maintaince work, little checks here and there on many bugs. Any help you can provide would be useful.

Unfortunately time usually rather leads to bit rot [1] than fixed bugs.
