Gnumeric 1.4.3 Released

Free, Fast, Accurate: Pick any three!

Gnumeric 1.4.3 aka "The End of The Line" has been released.

This is a bug fix release for 1.4.x with various minor patches. The main point of interest is that Ivan Wong has fixed Gtk+'s large window handing on Win32 and the 1.4.3 package for that platform is now considered ready for general usage. There are still missing pieces (printing and registry connections) but the core application can display smoothly now. We will post updated binaries on our download page when they are ready.

For best results, we recommend recent versions of Gtk+, Gnome Print, and Pango.

We expect that this is the final release in the 1.4 series. Work is continuing in
the 1.5 series.

--Morten Welinder, for the team.

nice bugfix

With this Gnumeric version it is possible to doubleclick a spreadsheet file in a network folder and have it open transparently!

Now, if only more GNOME apps would make this Just Work for their supported file types...

MMmmm... have you heard of GN

MMmmm... have you heard of GNOME VFS? Doesn't it do exactly what you ask for? Maybe I've misunderstood.

If devs don't bother to use GNOME VFS then their apps will not be network transparent, there's no way to force network transparency into apps... Not yet :)

No, because you have to modify the application. If network was visible as a UNIX path, it would be accessible for *everyone*, including cp, ls emacs, and *thousands* of apps without touching a single line of code. This is the UNIX power, and for now, it's not being used.

This has been there for a while, but not in a versatile way: you can mount a NFS or SMB share and you have 100% network transparency. This is very inflexible, since is difficult (not impossible) for normal users to mount anything.

That has been possible for a

That has been possible for a while. We fixed a problem with
authentication recently, though.

But... Save-as it botched for non-local files. Sorry, :-/ It's
a one-line fix and is in cvs.

Gnumeric is fanstastic!

I am a KDE guy, but Gnumeric is the best open source spreadsheet application and possibly better than the vast majority of the proprietary apps.

The Gnumeric developers have my respect for producing a great application that I use daily. The only thing I wish for is minor improvements in printing to PS/PDF.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Great Application

I like gnumeric, but I hope that it can save its size and position when exit, then when I start it next time, it will restore the size and position.

It does when you quit your se by Anonymous George

Re: Great Application

Yes! I need this feature! It feels wrong that it changes back to the same size everytime.
