The GNOME 2.10 splash screen contest is now closed. Thanks to everyone who submitted entries. In just a few days, we gathered more than 220 entries - a tribute to the popularity and success of GNOME. There were many high quality entries which made choosing a final splash screen very difficult. However, a decision had to be made, so, the splash screen chosen is.... here.

I hate splash screens. Startup times are long enough without loading so stupid picture to look at. OTOH, if a lot of loading is going on it's nice to let the user know something is happening. Unfortunately even I perceive splash screens as a waste of time advertising something I'm already using (you don't need to sell me) even though I know it's loading stuff during the display. I'd prefer if they cut startup time to the point where a splash screen would need to be cut to reduce startup time :-)
