GNOME 2.10 is coming closer and is ready to rock you to the socks. But to make sure everyone gets rocked properly we need a superterrific splashscreen.
Now is your chance to join the ranks of the precious few who have had their artwork associated with a major release of the GNOME! Contest rules and details are at gimp.org. Keep on rocking, and btw, you can use other apps to make the splash too, including for instance Inkscape.

Well, every file extension that isn't recognised is assigned an artificial mime type, so you should never need to do that. There will always be a mime type for every file. Then you can right click on the file to add a new app to open it.

If the file type isn't in the .desktop file then:

a) it's a bug
b) you can still associate the file with it anyway by manually entering its name

Seriously, the new system is sooooo much better than the old one it's not even funny. It's also a lot better than Windows (I don't know how macs do this).
