GNOME 2.10 is coming closer and is ready to rock you to the socks. But to make sure everyone gets rocked properly we need a superterrific splashscreen.
Now is your chance to join the ranks of the precious few who have had their artwork associated with a major release of the GNOME! Contest rules and details are at gimp.org. Keep on rocking, and btw, you can use other apps to make the splash too, including for instance Inkscape.

A pretty splash screen is impressive I guess. But a login that is virtually instantaneous is really really impressive. I had to use afterstep for a while and I would get my full desktop with launchers/etc almost before I was done pressing enter at the login screen. I realize that afterstep is really light compared to gnome/kde but really, I knew that and was impressed anyway. That is the sort of thing that makes someone's eyebrows go up with happy surprise, not a splash screen.
