GNOME 2.10 splash screen contest

Gnome 2.x
Gnome 2.x

GNOME 2.10 is coming closer and is ready to rock you to the socks. But to make sure everyone gets rocked properly we need a superterrific splashscreen.
Now is your chance to join the ranks of the precious few who have had their artwork associated with a major release of the GNOME! Contest rules and details are at gimp.org. Keep on rocking, and btw, you can use other apps to make the splash too, including for instance Inkscape.

yes, but...

It is hard. Clearly. However it is also extremely important. In the short term why not just copy exactly an existing model from OSX or Windows? Seriously. I understand that those systems aren't perfect but they are far far far better than nothing. A good mime type system is one of the big things that really keeps gnome out of the ranks of legitimate home desktop options. Corporate maybe because you can make your employees eat anything. But home users need something that *really* "just works" (gnome is there in some respect but not others).

Key things they need to get right before gnome is really legit:

1. copy/past (related to mime types)
2. mime types
3. a vfs system that actually works

Other than that gnome core is looking pretty damn good but these are deal breakers for XP and OSX fans.
