GNOME 2.10 splash screen contest

Gnome 2.x
Gnome 2.x

GNOME 2.10 is coming closer and is ready to rock you to the socks. But to make sure everyone gets rocked properly we need a superterrific splashscreen.
Now is your chance to join the ranks of the precious few who have had their artwork associated with a major release of the GNOME! Contest rules and details are at gimp.org. Keep on rocking, and btw, you can use other apps to make the splash too, including for instance Inkscape.

Adding mime type to a program is easy BUT

creating a new MIME type is very difficult.

- if a file is recognized as a MIME type you can just add a program capable of viewing or editing it to the list of applications allowed to do so (under the properties inspector of the file). But how does one *ADD* a new MIME type or make ones system able to associate a new file type with a new or existing application?

- if an application's MIME types are is described in its .desktop file great but how does one indicate an application should *BE* one of the MIME handlers for the file in the first place?

Where have the VFS locations like applications:/// preferences:/// etc. gone to??
