GNOME 2.10 splash screen contest

Gnome 2.x
Gnome 2.x

GNOME 2.10 is coming closer and is ready to rock you to the socks. But to make sure everyone gets rocked properly we need a superterrific splashscreen.
Now is your chance to join the ranks of the precious few who have had their artwork associated with a major release of the GNOME! Contest rules and details are at gimp.org. Keep on rocking, and btw, you can use other apps to make the splash too, including for instance Inkscape.

Oh really?

I love your blanket statement that any splash screen means that GNOME is too slow. So here's the options you leave us with, splashscreen-less:

1. No splash screen - users on slow computers get to sit there wondering what's going on while everything is loading. Who cares, they need new hardware anyway.
2. Make it faster by removing features that many people want to use.
3. Load everything after the desktop is loaded - leaving a chaos of windows flying around and things appearing while the user is already trying to click on things and do stuff.

Yeah, sounds like a great plan.
