The Hula Project

Hula is a really exciting project already in part because we think that we can fill a hitherto-unclaimed spot in the stack of open source applications and in part because we've "primed the pump" by basing it on an existing, functioning codebase: a Novell product called NetMail. NetMail already runs millions of calendars and mailboxes. And so we're starting off with the mundane work of building a functioning server done, leaving us to focus on creating interesting new functionality.

Confuse...

First he states:
"we are focused on building great calendar and mail functionality"
And next:
"The dominant collaboration solutions today (Exchange and Notes) are built on a pre-Internet design..."

So first he wants a very basic server (which has way to few functionality for a collaboration sever). And next he compares hula with full features collaboration server? That wired! The don't even know their own goals it seems!

And as he didn't find a GMail replacement he start a new one instead of improving one of the existing ones?!?

Nearly all those ideas about calendaring (which aren't that many) are about the web frontend. Whole Hula is about the web frontend! Why are firebird and evolution even mentioned? And what's the connection to GNOME?
