The Hula Project

Hula is a really exciting project already in part because we think that we can fill a hitherto-unclaimed spot in the stack of open source applications and in part because we've "primed the pump" by basing it on an existing, functioning codebase: a Novell product called NetMail. NetMail already runs millions of calendars and mailboxes. And so we're starting off with the mundane work of building a functioning server done, leaving us to focus on creating interesting new functionality.

I dont' get it...

For the Calendar ideas I only read this one:
"None of the ideas described here have been implemented, and we don't have any timeline or project plan to implement them."
So far Hula is big marketing. But there is no really useful/unique stuff there yet. Plenty other open source server already do these things already today - and they do it well.

And bout Jamie's blog:
It's a good idea to start small and concentrate on the parts that are really needed. But his example of a 22 year old student is ridiculous! A single person doesn't need a calendar server! Even for small companies (about 5 employees) do not really need a calendar server. So in this case they have to start with a server that's more than just mail+contacts+calendar. Setting up any existing and well tested mailserver + webmail + webdav for the calendar already works today. There is no need for a such a simple server!
