thanks for the idea, we can do that with the menu builder in debian, i will look after making such a hack for it:
if only one music player (or spreadsheet , etc) show only functional name (maybe keeping the applicition name with bracets, or in italic) , else create a submenu named after the function with only the player brand name under it.

The best would be something like reiserfs4 directory/file mix. Then we would be able to click on the directory an thus start the default application for this function (which may be choosable via the contextual menu or a dynamically generated "preferred applications" extension mechanism.

I can do the first one but the best approach is out of my reach.
