GNOME 2.8.1 Desktop and Developer Platform is released

The first point release of the stable 2.8.x series of GNOME has been
released. This release includes the latest bugfixes and other
improvements such as updated translations and is the first in a series
of point releases.

Re: basic features missed

Actually most of that is not true, at least not in my gnome 2.8 installation which makes me wonder.

  • press a letter key to select files: you can even select a specifik file by writing the beginning of the filename
  • manage a printer: I have no problems using the gnome-printer-thingie on my workstation to add/remove printer
  • manage a cdrecorder: nautlius-cd-burner works like a charm for me
  • media preview: with the right backend it works for most files, there even is a nautilus-thumbnailers-extras that can thumbnail pdf, ps, abiword and various other documents
  • nautilus corrupts ftp transfered files: I never had such a problem with files transfered over ftp

I think the guy has a point in the two though. Perhaps they are more of features that could be nice than critical features in the everyday use of gnome.
