I absolutley agree. I think GNOME should back parrot development instead of creating yet another programming environment (with an unclear future because of patents). Python compiled to Parrot with the ability to use Perl's CPAN (also compiled to Parrot with Perl 6 :-) could be the killer environment for Linux.

The next step could be shared libs between GNOME/KDE written in Python, which are GUI toolkit agnostic. So every camp could implement their GUI in whatever they want.

(I know this is a bit far fetched - but demand the impossible to achieve the possible).
