Re: Desktop Integration Bounty: Check-in 2 Cheque-out !!!!

There's no reason to fork.

I've been working for some time on libgaim. It's not officially released yet, but several projects are using betas of it. We created it so that other IM clients could be written that have gaim's functionality yet a separate UI.

We've set things up so that if people aren't happy, it won't be too hard to make a replacement. I've discussed possibly working on a GNOME-specific app using libgaim with better desktop integration.

A few groups have tried to fork gaim without going the libgaim method. None have lasted more than 3 releases. It's a lot harder than it looks, people. And believe me, we're not trying to be problematic. You should see the number of patches, bug fixes, and tech support issues we get on a daily basis. That's not including the disagreements within the project on how best to do things.

We can't accept everyone's patches, although bounty patches should definitely be given priority. Talk to Sean about those.
