Helix Player to be GPL'd

RealNetworks will be releasing the Helix Player under tri-license terms which will include the GPL in the next 30 days, thanks in no small part to the folks at Novell and Red Hat who pushed hard to make this happen. In very closely related news, Novell and Red Hat are both standardizing on the Helix Player as the standard media player on their commercial distrubutions. Details on all of this are available in the press releases (Real and Novell, Real and Red Hat), as well as this piece in the New York Times. Source code can be downloaded from the Helix Community

Re: Helix Player to be GPL'd

Whats the problem? If Helix Player is GPL people can share code, so this can only be good. Maybe there is nothing that Totem people can learn from this code, but maybe they can. I would them let decide. And maybe just make a fork of Helix to make YetAnotherAudioPlayer .
I really don't see anyting bad. I also suppose the rest will be GPL, soon. This is because you can not be "a bit pregnant". Real is going new ways. And if in the Helix code there are things that tell us how a Helix server works, somebody would reengineer this. Look we now allready have Microsoft Exchange clones. And with evolution connector GPL. Just wait and see.
