gTweakUI 0.0.6 has been released. So far we have three dialogs:

  • Extra Menu Preferences
  • Extra Session Preferences
  • Extra Nautilus Preferences

This release is beta but it is very usable right now. We plan to add more dialogs soon including galeon, panels, panel objects(menus etc) and gtk2 theme colors.
If you want to help out we need translators (41 strings at the moment), coders, artists, etc.. feel free to join the mailing list on our homepage and introduce yourself.

Re: gTweakUI 0.0.6 released

I have a different opinion: that is just silly.. Gnome comes with it's control center and configuration dialogs but there are extra gconf keys that can be set. The dialogs that gnome comes with are simple and usable. And.. quite nice :)

The extra gconf keys can alter advanced preferences that fewer people will want to use. I am one of those people who actually do use a few of the extra preferences and I am grateful that application developers put effort into providing extra configurability (through gconf).

All gTweakUI does is give people who want to set the extra preferences another tool to use. This is not part of the gnome distribution and I don't think it ever be.. the fact is this is an add-on app.. Who cares if it goes against gnome philosophy... This is not part of gnome.. this is a gnome app..

It is obvious that gnome developers care deeply about gnomes usability. The spatial nautilus checkbox will be in gnome2.8 apparently - bringing a more commonly used option to the main configuration dialog.

So I think gTweakUI has a place as an add on app.. It seems to fit perfectly with gnome's philosophy as far as I can see.. and.. 594f55204152452044554d
