gTweakUI is a collection of extra preference dialogs for GNOME 2.0+. It is a front end to GConf, for power users.

gTweakUI 0.0.6 has been released.So far we have three dialogs:

  • Extra Menu Preferences
  • Extra Session Preferences
  • Extra Nautilus Preferences

This release is beta but it is very usable right now. We plan to add more dialogs soon including galeon, panels, panel objects(menus etc) and gtk2 theme colors.
If you want to help out we need translators (41 strings at the moment), coders, artists, etc.. feel free to join the mailing list on our homepage and introduce yourself.

Dude, gconf-editor is an important developers tool to set and test gconf keys, you bet that it won't be replaced by a few control panels. It was never meant to act like an "advanced control center", though obviously advanced users may use it, if they want to.

A tweak tool like this is very nice, but it certainly won't be part of the desktop, that would kinda defeat the point of it. Let the tweakers have their fun and let the forum junkies have their peace, while the vast majority who wants software to "just work" is unaffected. It shouldn't be hard to find this application for anyone who is even moderately interested.
