Well, I am experiencing this terrible audio quality on a 2.6.5 kernel. The soundcard is accessed using an ALSA driver but since gstreamer alsa-sink seems broken (0.6.4, what comes with debian) for as long as I can remember, the oss-sink is used via the alsa OSS compatibility layer.

Actually I think this sounds like a setup that should work, but it certainly doesn't. Even w/o any other activity there's crackles. Any activity like for example scrolling a window makes the audo become nothing but noise.
