Gnome, Mozilla and the Challenge of Longhorn

Gnome 2.x
Gnome 2.x

With lots of talk recently about mono/java/python, it seems like a response to Longhorn and XAML is brewing. People at mozilla are talking about how to create an alliance against the hegemon. Co-operation with gnome is discussed on mozillazine. I do hope that gnome can use the XUL language or something like it so that gui programming is easy for us mere mortals. Lets not re-invent the wheel reproducing XAML when we've already got XUL!

Re: Want to fight? Package a SOLUTION

This is stupid. Competition is good. Sure you might say you are losing programming resources by working on two applications, but you have to wonder why people are doing this. Hint: They like design choices of one over the other etc. What needs to be done (and has been started already) is the sharing of common components. There is no need to say "Pick one over the other or nothing". Just share as much as possible (freedesktop, will hopefully help with this).

I don't see the point of point 2, or how you determined the market share in point 3 (let's just forget about linux because of it's low market share shall we?). And there is alot of documentation (good documentation) out there (yes, on the internet). It is true some projects lack in this regard and if so you don't have to use them do you. I can see problems with a centralised documentation DB type thing (I am assuming that is what MSDN is about) because once it gets bigger you will probably have to use google just to find something...
