Mark Finlay passes away

GNOME
GNOME

Mark Finlay passed away peacefully at home on Friday 9th January 2004.
Mark was the driving force behind the creation of the GNOME Users Board, where he helped numerous people learn to use GNOME. He was also a contributor to Rhythmbox, Gossip and numerous other GNOME projects. To quote Jeff Waugh "Mark Finlay was young, eager, furiously energetic and just heading into university - where I'm sure he would have blossomed into a great GNOME and Free Software hacker."

Re: Mark Finlay passes away

It is not PR but an honoring of those who made the release possible but could not be here to to share in its success. The release names have nothing to do with PR but are mostly internal (as internal you can get in Open Source). They are often humorus to the poit that they would be inapropriate for a press release, so why can't they be serious and respectful at a time when it is sorely needed in the Gnome community. The loss of three important and loved community members -- one could say leaders -- in such a short amount of time is tragic. The community as a whole needs to heal and make sure the memory of these three leaders is memorialized in some way. What better way then dedicating an entire release to them by naming it after them?
