Mark Finlay passes away

GNOME

Mark Finlay passed away peacefully at home on Friday 9th January 2004.
Mark was the driving force behind the creation of the GNOME Users Board, where he helped numerous people learn to use GNOME. He was also a contributor to Rhythmbox, Gossip and numerous other GNOME projects. To quote Jeff Waugh "Mark Finlay was young, eager, furiously energetic and just heading into university - where I'm sure he would have blossomed into a great GNOME and Free Software hacker."

Re: Mark Finlay passes away

I was deeply affected by the news of both Chema and Ettore, although I never knew either of them. I did get to know Mark, through his blog, the Users Board, and via e-mail on various projects. I feel really numbed by this news - terrible. I knew he was not well but his enthusiasm in his blog entries always hid that and I had hoped he was on the mend.

I hope people have the interest to take up his great UI ideas for things like gnome-scan and are able to bring them to fruition. We should not let the things that Mark left us fall aside.

If any of his family get to read these comments: Mark was a terrific guy - friendly, helpful, enthusiastic at all times. I only wish I'd had the chance to meet him in person. My sympathy to everyone who knew him.
