OpenOffice 2.0 Concept Overview and GNOME

This makes very interesting reading:
http://tools.openoffice.org/releases/q-concept.html. The document basically outlines the plan for OpenOffice.org 2.0. A significant portion of the document deals with GNOME integration. From a quick read, it seems that there is some overlap with what the Ximian guys are currently doing.

Re: Wingaim

Anecdotal experience...

OpenOffice 1.1 actually feels faster on Windows than it does under Linux, on my box. Give 1.1 a shot if you haven't yet, it's significantly improved on both platforms. And there is a quick-starter app similar to MS Office's which helps with startup time.

As for Gaim, I use .72 on Windows and my experience with it has been virtually the same as running the Linux version under Gnome.

I find it nearly impossible to use a Windows box anymore without installing at least Firebird and Gaim... OpenOffice is an absolute necessity under Linux (I've tried switching to Abiword and Gnumeric for light office tasks -- and the format compatibility just wasn't close to good enough for my needs). It's also a great alternative for Windows - lots of cheap PC's come with a Corel bundle these days instead of Word, and the first thing those buyers should do after opening the box is download OpenOffice.
