OpenOffice 2.0 Concept Overview and GNOME

This makes very interesting reading:
http://tools.openoffice.org/releases/q-concept.html. The document basically outlines the plan for OpenOffice.org 2.0. A significant portion of the document deals with GNOME integration. From a quick read, it seems that there is some overlap with what the Ximian guys are currently doing.

Re: OpenOffice 2.0 Concept Overview and GNOME

I think the fact that OOo is looking at integration with Gnome proves that the work done around usability, HIG and the general framework of Gnome was very worthwhile.

On the one hand, I agree with that sentiment. On the other, when I read sentences like "For example, the handling of dragging a toolbar will be improved by adding an area which indicates that it is possible to drag a toolbar." , I am a bit disheartened. The days of cross-platform interfaces are over, and if we ever really want a HIG-compliant OO.o, then it needs to be modularized like Mozilla so the GNOME developers can build their own Ephy-style front end. (But then, why not just work on improving abiword/gnumeric etc... difficult...)
