OpenOffice 2.0 Concept Overview and GNOME

This makes very interesting reading:
http://tools.openoffice.org/releases/q-concept.html. The document basically outlines the plan for OpenOffice.org 2.0. A significant portion of the document deals with GNOME integration. From a quick read, it seems that there is some overlap with what the Ximian guys are currently doing.

Re: OpenOffice 2.0 Concept Overview and GNOME

I think the fact that OOo is looking at integration with Gnome proves that the work done around usability, HIG and the general framework of Gnome was very worthwhile.

I am looking forward to the new version. I use 1.1 and the biggest problem I have is with spreadsheets. I have one at the moment with about 10 charts and a couple of pages of text the charts use. It seems to just spike my CPU at 100% when I try to copy a cell, or even just randomly really, and the spike will last for 30 seconds or so.

Hopefully issues like these will be resolved.

I do have to agree with a previous poster saying Word is just too dumb. I really think it is unproductive. I've spent a little time creating a set of styles in a template, so creating a document and then formatting it takes no time at all, while I remember the hours and hours of hassle I used to have at University formatting similar documents!
