OpenOffice 2.0 Concept Overview and GNOME

This makes very interesting reading:
http://tools.openoffice.org/releases/q-concept.html. The document basically outlines the plan for OpenOffice.org 2.0. A significant portion of the document deals with GNOME integration. From a quick read, it seems that there is some overlap with what the Ximian guys are currently doing.

Re: OpenOffice 2.0 Concept Overview and GNOME

I can't get to the site but I thought I mention what I thought based on the brief tidbit above. Basically I think its best that OpenOffice controls its own destiny with regards to Gnome integration. Ximian is now in the hands of Novell and while I think Novell has the best of intentions, perhaps now is the time to be cautious with regards to how strongly commercial interests are pulling on Gnome. Would Gnome gotten as far as it is without strong leadership by commercial companies? In a word NO. At the same time it remains to be seen what happens to Ximian and how well Novell manages it. Just FYI for those of you not familiar with Novell, they don't exactly have a good management track record. I'm not so negative to say this is a company on the downside looking to stay competive, but we need to keep a good eye on the situation. Thus if there is some overlap with what Ximian is doing, I say fine.
