This is really something that needs to be done through freedesktop.org - maybe you should have a word to them?

Another thing I think that should be standardised is the way linux mail clients store mail. Evolution has its way, Kmail has its way, mozilla mail has its way and so on.

I can't change mail clients without importing and setting up a new mail client. Imagine using mozilla mail and thinking to yourself, "Evolution looks good, I might try that". So you open up Evolution and your accounts are all set up and all your existing mail comes up.

This approach would be a bit hairy though, because some mail clients have groupware functions, anti-spam functions, contact functions, etc but we are smart guys - we should be able to work something out that works great.
