Huh. Maybe you're right. Care to back it up? Have the studies accounted for well designed preference dialogs with well organized and intuitive layouts or the typical "this is the way the developer wants it" crap that we see in the free software world? If you are going to shoot for higher usability, the usability studies should be a progression, not what has been done. What has been done is "user try this", user doesn't get it, it must be wrong, do it this way instead and don't test again. It is a process, not an event.
