this is a good thing, free softwre should not be elitist, it should be bringing the power of computers to the masses. i applaud that gnome is now focusing more on serving the real world than bored, privledged geeks. the vast majority of the world is utterly computer illiterate, gnome needs to aim to take these people into the fold to help bridge the technology devide.

that said, i think there is a lot of room for having extensions (like mozilla firebird has now) and a powertoys type gconf frontend for obscure features/prefs to keep everyone happy.
