The Galeon folk have released a brief history document, laying out what's gone before and what's coming soon.

Re: Galeon, A History

Why take a needlessly black-and-white way of looking at things. One thing people often miss about my essay is this paragraph:

An argument that "preferences are good" or "preferences are bad" is clearly unproductive. Only an argument that draws a line between when a preference should exist, and when it should not, is a meaningful argument that impacts real-world developer decisions.

Consider especially in light of this other essay that generalizes a bit to features in general, not just prefs. Linus's quote in there reflects what
Rusty Russell had to say in his OLS keynote: fear of complexity is the 4th virtue of the programmer.
It's really all about rationale. All code has a cost; which code is worth it?

(cue flames from people who think they obviously
know exactly the right answer to that question always)
