Ximian has announced their acquisition by Novell. More details are available in the joint press release.

No it isn't. As far as I know its LGPL'ed. (not that it would protect the code anyway)

That shows some integrity on Novell's part

Thanks to the BSD license, MS did not invent their own contrived protocol.
