I think it's safe to say this is a black day for GNOME and Free software

in general.

Does anyone really think that Evolution will continue to improve as open

software? Novell are virtually certain to begin the closing up process almost

immediately... Ximian owns the software copyrights and no amount of bleating

about the GPL will change what's going to happen. Red Carpet? Yeah sure... I

really want a daemon running on my system that's written by Novell monkeys --

I barely trusted Ximian, I sure as hell don't trust Novell.

Expect a few things: The closing up of Evolution. The winding down of the

free update service via Red Carpet... and expect RC to become more and more

invasive and obnoxious. No doubt the contributions to GNOME will continue

(they don't own the copyrights on the the whole GNOME code), but Mono is

screwed as an open platform -- any mugs who put at lot of work into that

can kiss it goodbye.
