Evolution 2.0 UI proposal

Here at Ximian we have been brainstorming a bit about what happens
next in the Evolution world. One of the ideas that has come up is a
substantial overhaul of Evolution's UI.

Since images speak better than words, here are the mockups for some
designs that Anna has developed: (this is just to give a very rough
idea of what it would be like; the icons and labels are not final, the
widgets are not the real ones etc.)

I think I would rather have the bit more vertical space on the right side (where the mails and such will be listed). The tabs are taking space away from it and the only advantage is that they have captions and are a bit easier to click at.

It might not be a bad idea however... Especially when Evolution becomes a lot of small applications communicating with each other (I would love that), so that you could get rid of the tab bar by launching a single app instead of the "shell". Everything else would look the same then and the shell could simply use the tab bar to group all applications together.

Hm well, thinking about it, I don't see any reason for this kind of shell to exist at all. Maybe going for a bunch of separated apps would be the best idea after all. This could also simplify the interfaces even more and make each interface the best for its job.
