Here at Ximian we have been brainstorming a bit about what happens
next in the Evolution world. One of the ideas that has come up is a
substantial overhaul of Evolution's UI.

Since images speak better than words, here are the mockups for some
designs that Anna has developed: (this is just to give a very rough
idea of what it would be like; the icons and labels are not final, the
widgets are not the real ones etc.)

have Evolution put its stuff in a ".evolution" folder instead of "evolution" in my home directory. I like to keep a tidy top-level (home) directory structure, and it's a little annoying when apps do their housekeeping in plain view.

I agree and have made this suggestion several times. Why not put evolution data in .evolution like normal apps do and have a pref for "Hide Evolution data in home directory". When unchecked, symlink ~/Evolution to ~/.evolution. When checked, can the symlink. Simple. Problem solved. Someone file a bug report, I am too lazy. Rather piss and moan about it here. :-)
