Evolution 2.0 UI proposal

Here at Ximian we have been brainstorming a bit about what happens
next in the Evolution world. One of the ideas that has come up is a
substantial overhaul of Evolution's UI.

Since images speak better than words, here are the mockups for some
designs that Anna has developed: (this is just to give a very rough
idea of what it would be like; the icons and labels are not final, the
widgets are not the real ones etc.)

Email:

When evolution where first started

it where a email client which could manage large amount of mail.

The UI is not there yet, If you could make it possible to read

more than one email at the time like google group's thread view

and make the folders and email's foldable.

like the source code in Ajunta, then I think that it would be faster

to read mail.

This means going from a 3-pan view to a 1-pan view.

and if you can factor of a smail emai-send client wish

only send a email it would be nice too.

This is for use in the mailto: handler

i am sick of evolution starting every time I click on

a link and it happens to be a mailto: link.

Calendar & todo:

I would like to see calendar and todo as panel applets.

The calendar applet should just show your next appointment with

a count down clock and

have a pull-down menu which show the next 10 appointment

plus a menu element which allow you to add a new one.

The todo applet should do something similar.

Summary:

I have always felt that the summary belonged in galeon's My Portal,

not in Evolution.
