A comment from Spain

I'm from Spain and I'd like to say something about this...

I live so near Extremadura and the new is OK, about 80.000 PC's are running Linux with Gnome. It's Debian, but with a very important modification. People of Extremadura don't see aplications like "OpenOffice", "Gimp", "Evolution" etc, This Distribution use "nicks". For example, when you lunch "owriter", they click on a soft link: "Espronceda" (a very important writer from ancient history of Spain). The other aplications are in the say way.

This is so important because make it easy for ALL the people: boys, grandfather's, "newbies", etc.

Where I live (Andalucia), we're neibourgs, the goverment sign an agreement to do all that is happening in Extremadura. Also, other regions are in the same way. Andalucia has about 1/6 of the population of Spain and Extremadura 1/25 aprox.

The problem? Well, The Statal Goverment sign 3 years ago a 1.200.000.000$ sale with Microsoft and they use MS in the statal administration. Our president is so problematic for us (they give his agree to Irak war when 90% of spanish people was againt war...)

Problems in future? Money, money, money.... MS has a lot and they put when/where they need it. But in Spain, like in other countries things are changing ;)

P.D: Sorry about my english, I hope that you can understand all that I tried to say.
