Karamba, Konfabulator and so on

You know that Karamba is just a attempt at mimicking the Konfabulator system for MacOSX by Arlo Rose? The claim of being innovative for doing an immitation is rather farfetched :) Konfabulator is also just a realization of an idea that Andy Hertzfelt had and begun implementing for Nautilus while Eazel was still up and running (it was never finished however). The idea can of course be said to be just a extension of DockApps/Pannel applets idea.

That said there has been discussions about doing something like Konfabulator for GNOME2. There is already a application calledgdeskCal

which contains what could be the start of a Konfabulator/Karamba for GNOME.

That said, and I even had gDeskCal running for a while I came to the conclusion that the system is less that ideal. I mean when do you actually see your desktop? Mine is covered by applications windows all the time.
