Ximian and Open Office

There has been lots of speculation on what Ximian has been doing with Open Office in prepartion for the GNOME 2 based version of Ximian Desktop. Well Michael Meeks made the slides from his presentation at the Open Office conference in Germany available, which details some of the changes done by Ximian.

There is a way to configure that in stock OpenOffice.org: Tools->Options->Load/Save->General

Right hand corner there, under "Standard file format," is an "Always save as:" drop down box where you can pick the default save format.

So yes, I think Ximian is probably just going to change the default to MS. Bad choice IMO, but this option should be better documented and much more visible. Discovered it by accident myself.
