There has been lots of speculation on what Ximian has been doing with Open Office in prepartion for the GNOME 2 based version of Ximian Desktop. Well Michael Meeks made the slides from his presentation at the Open Office conference in Germany available, which details some of the changes done by Ximian.
You find the slides here.

Re: Ximian and Open Office

I'm not sure that's what it means, but if it is, I'm not so sure that it would be the end of the world. In my ideal world, I'd be able to set what the default format is.

I've tried setting up OO for some windows people that were computer retarded, and even though I explained to them quite clearly that when they saved their documents they would have to specify MS Word if they wanted to be able to view their documents at school, the concept seemed beyond them.

So I think it would be great if I could make MS .doc the default format on their install. Sure it's a proprietary format, and that's a Bad Thing (tm), but I'd rather have people using OO with a word format than have them only using MS Word.

Of course for my own personal installs, I would still like to use the original open format.
